A century ago, the first business schools were developed as a result of the then US War Department wanting to study better strategies to conquer its enemies. As opposed to trades which existed a hundred years ago or beyond, today’s business environment, or competition, is much like a war – it requires strategic thinking and execution.

Throughout history, great business people have been strong readers. This has been true of managers, from Benjamin Franklin to Thomas Edison and Bill Gates. As a business student, you should therefore be prepared to take responsibility for your own reading and to build a strategic thinking mindset.

Businesses exist to serve people around the world and are an integral part of any economy. Business education is the fastest growing sector within education itself.

The study of business itself emerged from the broader study of economics and this is usually a compulsory subject which forms the basis for any advanced units.

A good business education is not about making money but about creating value for others. Those who have a good business education will be rewarded for their ability to create value.

One of the advantages of studying for a business or management degree is that it develops a winning or strategic mindset within individuals which enables them to take on any business or personal challenges.
