Admission as an advocate and solicitor
of the Singapore Supreme Court
Students should normally pursue a Law course at the National University of Singapore or Singapore Management University or at any of the overseas universities approved by the Ministry of Law to be called to the Singapore Bar.

Alternative Entry
The Diploma in Law is an alternative to A-levels, not an alternative to reading a law degree at NUS, SMU or an approved university.

Students who do not have an A Levels qualifications can pursue the diploma in law.

The diploma in Law in Law is recognised by select universities in UK in particular. Students should be advised to read a 3-year law degree as a full-time internal candidate at a university in the United Kingdom that is approved by the Ministry of Law. Thereafter, students can consider practicing law in Singapore upon successful completion of the requirements set by the Board of Legal Education. Students are strictly advised to check with the Board of Legal Education for the approved list of Universities before making an application to study in the Universities in UK.

Students are advised that they can only be admitted to the Singapore Bar if they fulfill: (i) all the requirements of being a “qualified person” as defined in Section 2 of the Legal Profession Act read with the Legal Profession (Qualified Persons) Rules; and (ii) all the admission requirements set out in Section 12(2) of the Legal Profession Act.
